EMABIA

Inspired by nature, our BISYKA rubber was developed in an internal Fraunhofer preliminary project - a biomimetic synthetic rubber that achieves the unique wear properties of natural rubber for the first time and even surpasses them: it produces 30 percent less abrasion, is one class better in rolling resistance and therefore leaves less microplastics in the environment.

In order to make BISYKA fit for industry, the low-emission separation of our biomimetic synthetic rubber from the solvent was optimized in the EMABIA project. This was made possible by a new downstream processing technology based on the coagulation/stripping process.

This laid the foundations for adapting the manufacturing technology of our BISYKA rubber for industrial production. We developed and tested innovative solutions for a safe production process on a semi-industrial scale.

We also optimized the material properties of BISYKA rubber by using new additives for new applications, for example for damper systems or medical technology.

The project was completed at the end of 2022 and funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Investitionsbank Sachsen-Anhalt.
